Recreation of North America
by Madahbee, Mel

Description: Found in back of canvas:

Turtle represents the Earth. The animals called the turtle to rise from the ocean, and KESHGOKWE, Sky Woman, came down to form North America. The Muskrat brought the dirt to Sky Woman, and (she) gave the breath of life back to the muskrat. From the piece of dirt, land was born around the turtle once more. The Chief represents the Great Creator of Life, Manitou.
